Various Causes of Dental Abscess

Dental abscess is one of the oral health issues which makes you irritating. The severe pain associated with tooth abscess makes you uneasy deviating your concentration on anything. It is nothing but a painful infection found at the tooth root or between the gum and a tooth. It is considered that dental abscess is resulted by various causes.

Tooth decay is the primary cause of dental abscess. The direct growth of bacteria on the tooth which is promoted by ineffective oral hygiene is responsible for causing dental abscess. Bacteria tend to grow from an existing cavity into the soft tissues and bones of the face and neck. Improper brushing and flossing rises the cavity formation in your teeth. The infection in the cavity can even spread to gums and other adjacent areas. As the infected tooth do not get appropriate dental care, a dental abscess results.

Apart from tooth decay, any trauma to the tooth may cause dental abscess. Chipped or broken teeth promote formation of dental abscess. This is because, openings in enamel of the tooth that are often associated with chipped or broken teeth allow bacteria to enter inside the tooth. The functional part of the teeth, the dental pulp which contains nerves and blood vessels, get infected with this. From the dental pulp which is the central part of the tooth, the infection may spread to the root of the tooth and also to the bones supporting the tooth. This results in dental abscess. It's, therefore, recommended to maintain an effective dental hygiene to avoid these dental issues. Even unrepaired restorations and periodontal diseases are found to be the causes of dental abscess.
