I have a good news and bad news here.
This is based on a report by the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse named “Monitoring the Future: National Results on Adolescent Drug Use”
Good news is that the use of marijuana and alcohol has declined among teens in 2008 compared to 2007. This is significant in the case of 10th standard students with a decline from 18.2 percent to 15.9 percent. The abuse of other drugs also declined among the seniors. Crystal methamphetamine use declined to 1.1 percent in 2008 from 1.6 percent in 2007.
Moreover, the bad news is that seniors are getting to the abuse of painkillers like Vicodin and Oxycontin. The report says that the use of prescription painkillers is high among high school students. Around 10 percent of them said that they used Vicodin and 4.7 percent said that they used Oxycontin.
We don’t know whether they were used for medical purposes or non medical purposes, be sure your child is not among the abused.
